This International Women’s Day, Faith in Action is standing against The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act — a bill that risks voting rights of women and vulnerable communities.
The SAVE Act would require all people to prove their citizenship status by presenting documentation—in person—when registering to vote or updating their voter registration information. More than 140 million United States citizens do not have a passport, and 69 million women who took their spouse’s last name through marriage would not be able to use their birth certificate to prove their identity. This means that they would not be eligible to vote.
As people of faith and moral courage, we believe that every person deserves to have their voice heard in our democracy, and the SAVE Act would limit the rights of women and vulnerable communities across the country.
You can use Faith in Action’s action page to send messages to your Members of Congress today telling them to oppose the SAVE Act. Our action page highlights how the bill would impact vulnerable communities that already face many barriers to voting.
We need your help to make our collective faith voices heard. Please join us in being an Architect of a New America by taking a moment today to add your signature to this sign-on letter. By saying NO to the SAVE Act, you are helping to protect voting rights and ensure that justice, equity, and the dignity of every person are upheld.
Together, we can work towards a more inclusive and equitable democracy.
In solidarity,
